Working with Newspapers: A Success Story

Stack of NewspapersBack in 2007, when the publisher of a daily newspaper owned by a large publishing company considered outsourcing ad production, the idea was greeted with surprise.

At the time, much of the newspaper industry was talking about and testing outsourcing. The publisher sent an employee to another newspaper’s office to learn about their outsourcing project–and that other newspaper was (and still is) an Affinity Express client.

The employee recognized the benefits of outsourcing and recommended moving forward with Affinity Express. So the newspaper became the first property from that publishing company to move forward with outsourced ad production.

Outsourcing gave the client an opportunity to eliminate unproductive staff.  They were amazed at how much more efficient they became. The client went live with outsourced production in late November 2008 and, after several weeks of long hours working on the transition, Affinity Express was performing well by the first week of 2009. America Recycles Day

Affinity Express believes strongly in recycling and promotes respect for the environment in all our company locations.  For example, at our Elgin Headquarters, we have bins for plastics and paper and have even donated collected cans and bottles to local charities as part of their fund-raising drives.

Recently, we conducted a contest to design a reusable tote bag to reduce the use of paper and plastic grocery bags.  The winning design was selected, the bags were produced and are now on their way to our India and Philippines offices to be distributed to employees.

Previously, we had a similar contest to design tumblers so fewer disposable coffee cups would be used by our employees.  There has been a positive impact and we have ordered 30% fewer cups to date. Read more of this post

5 Reasons Why You Should Care About Marketing Design

I work in marketing, so obviously I believe in the power of words and in the importance of effective communication. But why is the design of that communication worth much time and thought? Having said what I want to say, why can’t I just (for instance) dash off a plain text email instead of sending that email to our online team to be designed?

Why exactly is marketing design important, and why should you care about it? Read more of this post

All About IDEA

IDEA: Interactive Digital Entry AssistantWe all fancy ourselves creative folks here at Affinity Express, yet if you hear us talking about some “idea”, you might be surprised. The “idea” in question is less likely to be a creative concept and more likely to be the Interactive Digital Entry Assistant, our online ordering system that many of our clients use.

All you need to use IDEA is your log-in details (and you can register for free!).  Clients use IDEA not just for placing orders but also to submit quote requests, pick up finished work, store important customer files, check the status of their orders and communicate with the design team.

IDEA was developed way back in 2004, as a better way of sharing files, instructions, order status and other communications between clients and our teams. The use of IDEA served to dramatically improve communication and efficiency. It enabled clients to upload or access projects anytime from anywhere.  Last week, the one millionth order was uploaded to IDEA!  (By the way, we do have other workflows like the Affinity Express Service Bureau and also work in client systems–so we passed our one millionth order years ago.)
